Commander's Message

On behalf of the Ukrainian American Veterans, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the 56th National Convention in Palatine, Illinois. The National Executive Board, The Ladies Auxiliary, and the Convention Committee of UAV Post 35 would like to wish all the delegates, friends, and guests a very productive and enjoyable convention

Our conventions provide us an opportunity to take time from our hectic schedules and reflect upon our accomplishments as well as focus on our goals for the future. As we look to the future, our challenge is to maintain the traditions and rituals upon which the founding fathers of the UAV built this fine organization, while at the same time incorporating the changes that have moved us into the 21st century. We want to keep our sense of camaraderie and fraternity while at the same time utilizing information technology to out advantage. We want to be flexible enough to accommodate both the individual member at large as well as meet the needs of our various posts. We want to focus on our status as veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces while not forgetting our common Ukrainian heritage and a developing Ukrainian nation.

Our charter bill states that the function of the UAV is to act as an educational, patriotic, civic, and historical organization. The work accomplishments of our local posts as well as the National Executive Board over the past 56 years reflect exactly this objective. We can be proud of our accomplishments as well as our ongoing service to our country and fellow veterans. Let us continue to exemplify the values and purpose of the UAV as we campaign for our Federal Charter, move forward on our established projects, and set our agenda for the future of our organization.

As we gather together at this convention, let us not forget our troops who are stationed in various parts of the world to defend the freedoms that we enjoy and hold so dearly.

It is a privilege and honor to serve the UAV as National Commander. I would like to thank the National Executive Board, Post Commanders, Past National Commanders, State Commanders, the Ladies Auxiliary, and all our members for their support and cooperation. I would also like to thank Post 35 for hosting this convention.

Fraternally yours,

Mathew Koziak, National Commander
