| Greetings, fellow
UAV brothers and sisters. It is my sincere privilege to
have an opportunity to share my thoughts in this
first issue of our Post 32 Chicago Gazette.
What a journey it’s been. Regardless of where we
now live, city, suburbs or even out of state, the roots
of our post and many of it’s members can be traced back
to the “old neighborhood”. It was in this Ukrainian
Village that friendships were formed. Even though
life took us in many directions, these friendships
have endured. The common bonds that we have can be
felt within our post. During our meetings and get
togethers, it’s not just post business that’s discussed.
There’s always time to reminisce about days gone
by, the old neighborhood, military experiences,
friends, family and what’s been happening in our
lives. We all contribute, in whatever ways we can, to make this post and it’s activities our pride and joy. It’s very difficult to express the pride and gratitude I have for all of the hard work, equally hard play and the effort all of you have put forth to make our post the success that it is. This success can be measured in many ways. This past year our post ranks have doubled to over 50 members, making us one of the largest in the country. Let’s continue our membership recruitment efforts. Invitations from a vast variety of City of Chicago sponsored events, church celebrations and local community gatherings attest to the impact we’ve made by our willingness to be out there. Putting together post and Ukrainian American Veterans historical facts, military memorabilia, cemetery plot plans, Post Commander’s message (continued from page 1) photo library and veteran’s benefit data is starting to make our mission statement a reality. Can anyone deny the bonds, friendships and common goals that we’ve already achieved? I think not. All of this is possible, be-cause as American veterans and Ukrainians, we each made a conscious decision to become part of this elite team, which we call Post 32. I would be negligent not to recognize some special individuals. Our post presented Certificates of Appreciation to some of our benefactors who are helping us to grow and become a viable community partner. John Horodecky for his support and work on behalf of our veteran’s efforts. Col. Julian Kulas at First Security Federal Savings Bank and Mr. Bohdan Watral and the Board of Directors at Selfreliance Federal Credit Union for their very generous contributions. Their support will help us further our mission. Last, but certainly not least, I have to extend a special salute to our editorial staff. A lot of time and effort was put in to make this publication a reality. Thanks, John Steciw and Andy Mylniczenko. Our Post 32 Chicago Gazette needs to be an interactive publication to be a success. Any comments, letters to the editor, recommen-dations, personal stories, UAV related articles and pictures are very welcome and encouraged. We need your help and participation to make this new phase of our growth a success. Send all your items to John or Andy. We plan to release our newsletter quarterly. Let’s keep this journey going as far as we can make it go. The end of the road depends on where we want it to stop. God Bless America, Ukraine and the UAV! |
