For the Ladies of Post 32

The members of Post 32, would like to thank , Veronica Bihun, Ruth Jaworsky and Myra Nalywajko for all their help this past year. These fine ladies were with us to help set up and run the refreshment stand at the cemetery and our tables at Ukie Fest. They sold a lot of water, soda, beer, T-shirts and CD’s to help raise money for the post. They’re also working behind the scenes with preparations our first Annual New Year’s Eve Dance. We’d also like to thank Halia Chyterbok for hosting several staff meetings at her home. The food was great!

UAV National Commander Visits Chicago

Post 32 had the pleasure of welcoming the UAV National Commander, Mathew Koziak and his wife Oksana, to Chicago during Ukrainian Independence Day celebrations. The trip included a full agenda of events which began the moment they arrived. Thursday evening, 8/27, Matt attended the mayor’s reception celebrating Ukrainian Independence at the Chicago Cultural Center. Members of Post 32 formed an honor guard for the event. Matt presented the mayor of Chicago, the honorable Richard M. Daley, the official UAV history book. He also had an opportunity to speak to the mayor about the federal charter the UAV is trying to attain. Afterwards, we invited Matt and his wife to the Ukrainian American Club to relax a little and to get better acquainted. John Horodecky, the club’s president, was a cordial host.

The following afternoon, at the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago, our post raised the Ukrainian flag. This event marks the City of Chicago’s recognition of Ukrainian Independence. Matt was one of the keynote speakers. On Saturday and Sunday, Matt and his wife spent time with us at Smith’s Park during the Ukrainian Days Festival, where we had a booth set up. We sold our T-shirts and CD’s and promoted the UAV.

It was a full schedule for the Koziaks. We hope they enjoyed themselves and come back to visit us again soon.
