Veterans Day Observances 2005 by Oleh R. Cieply, UAV Post 101 Commander Veterans Day Observance in Warren (by Oleh R. Cieply) On November 11, 2005 at 11:00 AM Members of UAV Michigan Post 101, Catholic War Veterans of Post 645 , Members of the Brotherhood of Veterans of the 1st Division (UNA) and a representative of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) Veterans assembled at the Ukrainian Veterans Monument on Ryan Road in Warren, MI to pay their respects to all who served in the armed forces. The UAV Ladies Auxiliary was represented by its Immediate Past National President, Mrs. Irene Pryjma., Mrs. Jean Elnick, Mrs. Victoria Maksimowich, Mrs. Zenovia Ogrodnik and Mrs. Alberta Cieply. The weather was sunny and warm, and this contributed to a good attendance by the Veterans, their families as well as numerous citizens of the Ukrainian Community. A wreath was laid jointly by Joseph Harkow, the Commander of Post 645, Osyp Rudnycky, the Commander of Veterans of the 1st Division (UNA) and Oleh Cieply, Commander of UAV Michigan Post 101. A second wreath was placed at the Monument by the UAV Ladies Asuxiliary of Post 101.Special Prayers were read in English and Ukrainian by Father Philip Sandrick, OSBM, the Pastor of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Warren, MI. The Ceremonies were conducted by UAV Michigan Post 101 Commander who gave a brief address emphasized that Veterans, in particular those who served during WWII and the Vietnam War, deserved the Nation’s special gratitude not only on Veterans Day, but throughout the whole year. He also pointed out that the men and women who are serving today in Iraq and Afghanistan are our Veterans of tomorrow. They should be honored and remembered in our Prayers. At the conclusion of the ceremonies the participants were invited for coffee and delicious donuts at the Ukrainian Future Credit Union. Veterans Day at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (by Oleh R. Cieply) In the afternoon of November 13, 2005 numerous Military and Veterans Organizations from the United States and Canada assembled at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit, Michigan for the 42nd Annual Veterans Day and Remembrance Service. UAV Michigan Post 101 was represented by its Color Guard. Our flag bearers were Yarema Prysiazniuk, Eugen Kondziolka and Myron Woronowycz. Present from UAV Michigan Post 101 were also Myroslaw Pryjma, Stefan Fedenko, Joseph Elnick , Nick Lapajenko (who also represented the NCOA) and Oleh Cieply. The UAV Michigan Post 101 Ladies Auxiliary was represented by Alberta Cieply, Jean Elnick and Rose Lapajenko. At the beginning of the Service the color guards carried their flags down the Cathedral aisle. The UAV Color Guard was among them. During the Service the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag stood proudly among the Stars and Stripes in front of the church. The participation by the Ukrainian American Veterans was acknowledged in the official program. Alberto J. Mora, General Counsel of the Department of the Navy was the keynote speaker.
