How to Apply

Students interested in applying for the UAV Scholarship Award should fill out an application, send their college transcript, write an essay on this year’s military topic, and email a high-quality digital picture. To be eligible for a UAV scholarship, applicants must be descendants of or related to a Ukrainian American Veteran. Students should be full-time undergraduate college students enrolled in a degree program or attending an accredited trade school or institution that has a degree program.  Students may apply during their senior year in high school; college attendance will be verified before awards are given in the fall. Applications are accepted all year round, but the deadline is August 31 of each year. Additionally, undergraduate students may re-apply for a scholarship award each year (up to 4 years).

UAV Scholarship

Each year Ukrainian American Veterans (UAV) scholarship winners are announced at the UAV annual convention. The UAV Scholarship Committee selects and awards scholarship money to undergraduate college students. The purpose of the scholarship award is to help students pay for tuition, books or school supplies.

Students are required to write an essay (400-500 words) about a current military or popular topic. The topics for 2019 included the following:

  • the war on terrorism
  • human rights
  • negative effects of wars on American veterans
  • Russian aggression on sovereign countries
  • contributions of Ukrainian-American veterans to America’s wars

Students can choose any one of these five topics for their essay.  Other criteria considered for a scholarship are academic achievement and extracurricular activities.
