Members-at-Large

Map shows where UAV Members-at-Large live throughout the continental United States as of August 2026, with the largest numbers residing on the East Coast and in southern states.

The Ukrainian American Veterans, Inc. (UAV) boasts 20 active posts throughout the continental United States as of 1 August 2026. Many Posts are located near major cities like Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Others are located in smaller metropolitan areas like Allentown, Buffalo, Cleveland, Hartford, and Trenton.

What if you don’t live near a city with an active UAV Post? Can you still be a member of the Ukrainian American Veterans? Where would you meet if you don’t have Post hall? Are there other veterans who also don’t live near an active UAV Post? What do they do?

Read on to learn the answers to all those questions and more!

Join the UAV as a Member-at-Large

If you do not live near an active UAV Post, you can still join as a Member-at-Large (MAL). MALs share all the same benefits as members of Posts that have a physical location. When filling out a membership application, leave the checkboxes blank when selecting a Post and send your application to the UAV Vice Commander. That’s it!

You may be surprised to learn that nearly ten percent of the UAV membership are members-at-large.

Where Are All the Members-at-Large?

While the Members-at-Large may not be the largest Post (that honor goes to UAV Post 101 near Detroit), they are certainly the most geographically diverse.

With apologies to the author of “America the Beautiful,” the UAV can boast that it has members “from sea to shining sea”. Members-At-Large live as far west as California and Washington and as far east as New Jersey, New York, and Virginia; as far north as Minnesota and Wisconsin and as far south as Arizona, Florida, and Texas.

As the map at the top of the page shows, UAV Members-at-Large live throughout the continental United States, with the largest numbers residing on the East Coast and in the Southern United States.

Where do Members-at-Large Meet?

Hey that reminds me of a joke! Three veterans walk into a bar. You’d think one of them would have seen it!

Seriously, Members-at-Large have a logistical hurdle to overcome that other Posts do not.

Most Posts meet at least once a month. They gather at their local Post hall, meet old friends, conduct their business, (maybe tell some bad jokes), and then go home until the next meeting or event. MALs cannot do that.

Members-at-Large live too far apart to gather in-person, and not all members attend the UAV Annual Convention. So what can a poor MAL do? (I’m pretty sure you already guessed.) Modern communication technology to the rescue!

Members-at-Large meet online, of course! MALs meet on Zoom calls throughout the year (at least quarterly). They also have the opportunity to meet in person at the Annual Convention, but otherwise all meetings are held online.

Check Membership Eligibility

Interested in joining the UAV? Hey, not so fast!

You should check the Membership page for eligibility requirements before you complete a UAV Membership Application Form and pay your annual dues.

Briefly, if you’re an honorably discharged veteran and have Ukrainian ancestry, you’re in. There are exceptions for spouses and veterans who served in Ukrainian Armed Forces, but most members are Ukrainian American veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

How Much Does It Cost?

You might be wondering how much membership costs, right? Like all good things, membership has a price (but it’s not much). As of August 2026, Members at Large only pay the $25 national dues.

Dues are paid to the National Vice Commander. If paying by check, please make your check payable to Ukrainian American Veterans, Inc.

Members-at-Large can also pay their annual dues online. Also check out the Quartermaster store for UAV uniform items, shirts, hats, challenge coins, and other cool stuff!
